It is with heavy hearts that the Merritt Family announces the passing of their mother, Kathleen (Kaye), peacefully in her home on Wednesday, March 4th, 2021 at the age of 91. She was predeceased in 2015 by her husband and best friend, Don. She leaves behind her sons, Spencer (Karen), Jim (Isabel), daughter, Darlene (Milton) and loving sister, Claire. Kaye was a proud grandmother to Samantha (Jesse), Karl (Ania), Devon (Joanne), Ryan, Kaitlin (Gerry), Jennifer (Theo), Nicholas and Victoria (Jeremy) and seven great-grandchildren. Kaye was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Leone Dixon, five sisters, three brothers and daughter-in-law, Ute Merritt.

Kaye was born in Elkhorn, Manitoba, attending high school in Winnipeg and received her B.A. and B.Ed at Nipissing University. She retired from teaching in 1990 after a fulfilling career and took great pleasure in keeping track of her former students and the accomplishments they achieved. She taught in Manitoba, Mississauga, Hong Kong and North Bay.

Kaye greatly enjoyed reading, curling, playing bridge, and above all else, hosting friends and family at the cottage she and Don owned on the south shore of Lake Nipissing. She will be sadly missed by her immediate family, many much-loved nieces and nephews, good friends and neighbours.

If desired, donations to The North Bay and Area Community Foundation (www.nbacf.ca) or Trinity United Church will be acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements will be entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.
