1917- 2007. It is with great sadness that the family announces her passing into the spirit world, at the West Nipissing General Hospital, Sturgeon Falls, on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the age of 89 years. Leda was born on February 19, 1917 in Duchesnay Creek and was the daughter of the late John and of the late Edna (née Laronde) Couchie. Beloved wife of the late Fred McLeod Sr., cherished mother of Dwyla Goulais, Fred Jr. (Kathleen), Jeannette Goulais, Angus McLeod, Joan McLeod, Barbara Young, Phyllis Anderson (John), Theresa McLeod, Lorraine Archer and Lee McLeod all of Garden Village, Jacqueline Couch (Glenn) of Pickering, Eleanor Bellaire (Albert), Larry McLeod (Darlene), Debi Fisher (Derrick) all of North Bay, Darlene Church (Bill) of Barrie, Lynda Lewis (Henry) of Wikwemikong, Tammy Saulis (Conrad) of Ottawa, Nancy Allaire (Peter) of Sturgeon Falls. Predeceased by her daughter, Phyllis. Dear sister of Thomas Couchie, Evelyn Avery, Delma Sawyer, Barbara Jolicoeur and John (Jack) Couchie all of North Bay, Katherine Restoule and Ivy Restoule of Dokis First Nation, Theresa Lintner (Don) of Circleville, Ohio. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by 48 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and seven great- great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her two brothers, Lawrence and Fred Couchie.

In the words of Father Milton: “Leda McLeod had a deep and abiding love for her Lord and God Jesus Christ, and it was in His light that she lived her life, as a wife, a mother, and a kind caring compassionate person to all she met. She set the path for all to follow, in what it meant to be Christian, hardworking, faithful to her church, family and community. Compassion and mercy was her second nature, prayer and devotion to her God was her first. She never saw a hungry and lonely soul without offering help. She counselled the lost, she consoled the grieving, she rejoiced with her friends.” We will never forget the privilege of having known her, of having journeyed with her in her life. We pray in thanksgiving for her sharing her life with us. The Lord whispered to her the words: “Well done good and faithful servant, come now and receive the reward of your labours. Come feast in my kingdom prepared for you from before the beginning of time.”
