Martin, Walter

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Walter (Butch), after his battle with cancer. Surrounded by the love of his family, Walter passed away peacefully at The North Bay Regional Health Centre on January 27, 2021. Born June 12, 1946, he was 74 years of age. Predeceased by his loving wife Maureen (Janet, nee Brooks) Martin and father of Michael (Casey) of Cumberland and Jennifer Ann Charter (Frank) of Orleans.

Walter leaves behind his dearest friend, Maria Gosselin and will be missed by the entire Gosselin family. He loved, and was very proud of, his grandchildren Nicholas John and Elizabeth Grace (Liz) Martin, Katelyn (Katie) Rose and Meagan Elizabeth (Nicole) Poirier and Grayson Spencer Charter. He will be truly missed by sisters Lenora Comerford (Dan), and Brenda Martin (Lilo). Predeceased by his parents Walter Jeffery and Marion (Edwards) Martin and his sisters Barbara Ricker and Carol Martin. Brother and sisters-in-law Judy (Dave), Betty-Lou (Harvey), Robert, and Bonnie; as well as, the rest of the members of the Brooks family have fond memories of Walter.

Walter was known for being a social and considerate man, with an incredible work ethic. He enjoyed his involvement in the North Bay Golden Age Club, whether it was dancing at special events or carpet bowling. He was an outdoor enthusiast and a great mentor who was devoted to his involvement in Scouts Canada, both as a youth and a Leader. With his personal time, he loved to socialize around campfires at various campgrounds and found joy in music. He was a dedicated employee of National Grocers Co Ltd and a committed member of St. John’s Anglican Church, where he participated in various community ministry initiatives. The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude for Dr. Phillipson and C. Duquette (resident), Dr. Niebergall and M. MacLennan (resident) and Dr. Kistemaker at NBRHC; as well as, Dr. Jani and Dr. Bowen of the Northeast Cancer Centre, Health Sciences North for their exemplary care, compassion and support.

We would also like to express a very heartfelt appreciation to the fine nurses and staff on D-3, and the amazing staff at Daffodil Terrace Lodge, for your kindness and compassion extended to the family during these very difficult times. A celebration of Walter’s life will be held at a later date. His final care and arrangements have been entrusted to The Martyn Funeral Home, 446 Wyld St, North Bay.
