Legault, Delia (née Leblanc)
1946 – 2024

The family announces with sorrow her death in Sturgeon Falls, Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at the age of 77 years. Daughter of the late Laurent and of the late Dorothy (née Goulais). Beloved wife of the late Ernest. Delia is survived by her loving companion and cherished friend Roger Young. Loving mother of Carole Legault, Joanne Locicero (Paul), and Nicole Bertrand (Carl). Dear sister of Garry Leblanc (Carole). Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Anthony, André, Geneviève, and Alexis. Fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.

Delia was deeply admired and loved by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. She was known as a "Jane of all Trades" and held down a variety of jobs at once. Delia began her nursing career in Sudbury in her 20's and retired from NFN Health Services as an RPN/PSW. Renowned as a phenomenal cook in the Sturgeon Falls area, Delia worked at the King Edward, and later opened her own restaurant Delia's Cuisine. On the side, she provided catering services and worked as a Seamstress for many years with a great love for needlepoint technique.

Delia volunteered for many organizations/committees throughout her life. She was known for her gentle quiet soul, kindness, and generosity. In times of need, Delia would go above and beyond to help her beloved community. Due to her caring nature, Delia often donated money and clothing to many important causes. She took pride in her Indigenous heritage and volunteered at local powwows on a regular basis providing luncheon services. A great hostess, even when in pain, Delia fed and served her guests with a joyful-happy smile on her face.

More than anything, Delia loved and cared for her family. The only thing that could compete was her infatuation with Elvis, but that’s beside the point. She was the rock that held the family together. Delia cherished every moment she could spend with her loved ones and often hosted family gatherings in her beautiful tiny home. She indeed had more family photos on display than square footage in her home, however, with careful consideration and neat placement of her decorations, Delia made it work and brought the family together. She enjoyed having company and always planned the next visit. Due to her amazing cooking skills, the family would quietly devour each meal, and there was some speculation that Delia would rely on food rations for a few days following her family gatherings. Nevertheless, she never missed birthdays or special events and really enjoyed holiday feasts with the family.

Delia was grateful for everything and everyone in her life and did not take anything for granted. Her strong, caring, and positive aura brought so many amazing people into her life. She enjoyed long-distance conversations with her cousin Peggy, whom she considered a sister. Her hard work and determination was greatly appreciated by the people she helped in the culinary and healthcare fields. Thankfully, the NFN reserve staff and nurses returned the favour to Delia later on in life and provided her with the services she needed in her home. Their visits and countless hours of support were always appreciated.

A true nature lover, Delia never let her health issues stop her from gardening, bird-feeding and planting flower beds. She was the epitmome of strength and independence. At home, she loved to play TV Bingo and decorate her house with beautiful plants, calendars and wind chimes. Delia loved going out for weekend breakfasts with her family and friends. She enjoyed going on road trips to visit her daughters down south. She will be greatly missed in future family gatherings.

Delia’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to NFN Health Service Workers for all their wonderful caring support.

A special thanks to APS Constable Tyeler Commanda and Kove Lafontaine, as well as Dr. Beaucage, Dr. Bourgault and Edgar Goulais for their compassion, care, and support.

The family will receive friends at the Theoret-Bourgeois Funeral Home, Sturgeon Falls on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A celebration of life will follow at the funeral home at 12 p.m. Funeral arrangements in care of the Theoret-Bourgeois Funeral Home, Sturgeon Falls.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Covenant House Toronto or organization of your choosing would be greatly appreciated.
