LARABIE, Denis “Poppa“

With deep sadness the family announces the death of Mr Denis “Poppa“ Larabie of Cobalt at the age of 77 years. Mr Larabie passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 12, 2008. Born at Bucke Township on April 6, 1930, he had been a lifelong Cobalt resident. He was a devoted husband, father and Poppa. Mr Larabie was also very devoted to his community and had been involved with many service clubs and organizations over the years. He was a Life Member of the Cobalt Lions Club and President of the Cobalt Golden Age Club. He also volunteered much of his time with Meals on Wheels and the Cobalt Catholic Cemetery Board. He was recognized for his many acts of kindness and awarded the Coleman Township Senior Volunteer of the Year Award. Mr Larabie was a faithful member of the former Ste Thérèse Parish and of St Patrick's Parish. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hockey, baseball, golfing and bowling to name a few and also coached and volunteered with various sports organizations within the community.



Mr Larabie is predeceased by his parents Francois Larabie and Clara Tambeau; brothers: Pete, Romuald, Donald and Andrew; and sisters: Lucy and Hélène. Sadly missed by his loving wife of 57 years Janet [nee White]; children: Peter [and Cristy], Bern [and Dinara], Dan [and Karen], Claire [and Rudy] and David [and Janice]. He is the beloved Poppa to: Amanda, Angie, Danielle [and Troy], Adam, PJ [and Joanne], Geir, Sean, Dieter, Drue, Sabrie, Hailee, Eden and Brittany. Also left to mourn are two great-grandchildren Zachary and Jarret; sister Irene Lacarte; and sister-in-law Agnes Larabie. He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and a large extended family.



The Larabie Family will welcome friends at the BUFFAM LEVEILLE FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 from 2: to 4:pm and 7: to 9:pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at 11:am from St Patrick's Catholic Church - Cobalt. Father John Lemire officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Cobalt Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, a Community Club or the charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged.
