Don passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Nipissing Manor in Corbeil on November 14, 2022. He was 89 years old. He was predeceased by his wife Yvonne (nee Switzer), his parents Peter and Elsie (nee Ashmore) Lamont; his sisters Elsie Delaney, Ethel Cyr and Shirley Knapp; as well as his brothers Melville and William.
He will be sadly missed by his son David, daughter-in-law Sue and granddaughter Katlyn.
Don was born in Montreal where he became a dedicated Habs fan. He spent time in the Canadian Navy and in Ottawa before settling in Petawawa. While in Petawawa, Don took up hockey at an advanced age, joining Ted’s Silver Kings Oldtimers team. He earned the nickname Schultzie despite his Lady Byng style of play. Don was employed at Atomic Energy Chalk River. After retirement, Don enjoyed several years in Petawawa before life circumstances forced a move to North Bay. He resided at Barclay House Retirement Home and finally Nipissing Manor, where he became a staff favourite.
Family would like to thank Dr Jinnah, Dr Ng and especially all the staff at Nipissing Manor for the exemplary care afforded Don over the past 5 years.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation would be appreciated.
A funeral and internment in Pembroke is planned for May 2023.
