HOVAAS, Betty Careen (nee Waldon)

1922 – 2006 A resident of the Empire Living Centre, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2006. Predeceased by husband Kristian Henry and daughter Nina Marie. Betty served in Hjemmefronten, Norway's resistance army during the German occupation of World War II. After the war she opened a hat shop in Oslo, and travelled a bit. She and Kris eloped to Brussels, Belgium. They emigrated to New York City, then to Hantsport, Nova Scotia and on to Scarborough, Maine. They returned to Norway after 15 years on this side of the pond, to find things had changed drastically there. Then they moved to Canada in 1973 and stayed. Betty moved to North Bay in 2000 to be near her daughter Mette.



Betty will always be remembered for her wit, her defence of the underdog and her wonderful dinner parties. A memorial service will be held at the Empire Living Centre on Friday, July 14 at 2 pm. Donations to the Gathering Place would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements entrusted to HILLSIDE FUNERAL SERVICES.
