Of North Bay, formally of New Liskeard died peacefully at North Bay General Hospital-Scollard Site on Thursday Sept. 27th 2007 at the age of 83. Survived by his beloved wife Jean Hawn (Kerr). Dear father of Lynn Coutts (Don), Darlene Harris (Martin) and Douglas (Marie). Dearly loved and greatly missed by his grandchildren Jason (Andrea), Amy (Jody), Jeffrey (Jennifer), Bill, Justin, Kathryn, Christopher and two great grandchildren Emily and Kailee. Cecil was born in Uffington (Muskoka District) on December 8th 1923 to Florence and Samuel Hawn.



He attended Bracebridge High School. Later he began a short career with Ontario Hydro but found his calling career in teaching. He became Principal of North Cobalt Public School and also taught high school in Haileybury and Cobalt. He enjoyed his years with his students and retired in 1984. He was a veteran and served as an Air Force Pilot. Some of his pass times were traveling and the outdoors, he was a true northern man. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren during his retirement years. Cecil built the Drive-In Theatres in Huntsville and New Liskeard with his brother Elmore and the Husky motel in 1960. He took part in many community involvements. Cecil was an avid Lions member for over 50 years, including a term as District Governor. He devoted his life to the betterment of the community and became Reeve of Dymond Township for 10 years and Councilor for 9. Cecil was responsible for the Miss Clay Belt that stands at the Information Center in Dymond Township. He was a long time member of St. John's Anglican Church in New Liskeard and more recently of St. Brice's Anglican Parish in North Bay.



Funeral service to be held on Monday October 1st, at 2 pm at St. Brice's Anglican Parish, 1225 Cassells St. Flowers are welcome, or donations to the charity of your choice.
