GROULX, Marcel

Of RR5 Stratford passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at 80 years of age. Marcel was born in Astorville, ON (south of North Bay) then moved to Stratford in 1948 and worked as a weaver at Avalon Fabrics. He was a carpenter by trade and was hired to convert a house in Sebringville into what is now Dwyer's Roadhouse and a building on Erie Street into the Stratford Hotel. He also built several houses including their own. Then he worked for 18 years as maintenance man at Hillside Nursing Home before he retired. On August 31, 1950, in St. Joseph's Church, Marcel married the former Mabel Ebel and became her beloved husband for 56 years. He was the dear father of Maureen and husband Jack Dearing of Mitchell and Gary and wife Alice Groulx of Belmont. Marcel will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Rob and wife Kim Dearing, Susan and husband Joe Hand, Mike Dearing, Steve and wife Rebecca Dearing, Chad Groulx and Diane, Nathan Groulx and Shawna; step-grandchildren Tonya and husband Glen Seddan, and Heather and husband Rob Mikkelsen. He will also be missed by his great-grandchildren Eric, Emily and Ethan Dearing, Liam, Cameron and Kaitlyn Hand, Heather and Amberleigh Dearing; and step- great-grandchildren Mikayla and Jacob Seddan, Amber, Zach, and Isabella Mikkelsen. Marcel was the dear brother of Louise St Jean, Angeline Burns, Rita and husband Russell Cook, Phil and wife Eveline Groulx, Louie and wife ReJeanne Groulx, Bea and husband Roger Paulin, Andy Groulx and Joan, and Anita Groulx. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Bob Ebel; and sisters-in-law Bette and husband Don Wakevainen, Rachelle Groulx, Grace and husband Harold Smitjes, Ruth Ebel, and Donna Csonto. Predeceased by his parents Dolphis and Alma Groulx (nee Ouellette), a step-father Onesime Desrosiers, father-in-law and mother-in-law Herman and Minnie Ebel, brothers and sisters Maurice Groulx, Jeanne Gauthier, Lina Groulx, Oscar Groulx, and by Lucien and Therese Groulx in infancy. He was also predeceased by brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, Paul Gauthier, Oliver Groulx, Emmanuel St Jean, Joe Burns, Collette Groulx, Therese Groulx, Lorraine Groulx, Ernie Ebel, Bill Ebel, Betty Ebel, Emmanuel Benneweis, Jim Csonto, and Jim Ebel.



Friends and relatives may call at the W.G YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 430 Huron Street, Stratford today, January 26, 2007, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Deacon Mark Stagg will officiate. Spring burial at Astorville Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Multiple Sclerosis through the funeral home.
