GRAY, Robert “Bob”

It is with great sorrow that the family of Bob Gray announce his death on Saturday, October 8, 2011 in his 74th year at North Bay Regional Health Centre. Bob was the beloved husband of Sylvia Diane (Davis) and loving father of Andrew (Monika) of Powassan. He was predeceased by his parents Jean (Balfour) and William Gray; his brothers Peter and Alexander Gray and is survived by his sister Patricia (Wayne Husband) of B.C. Bob was a retired Canadore College Professor, and formerly: Constituency Director for Moe Mantha; Addiction Research Foundation Community Consultant and Centre Director; Councillor and Reeve of Chisholm Township (1978-1991); Teacher at Rutgers University School for Alcohol Studies, New Jersey, Warrendale Treatment Centre for Emotionally Disturbed Teens, and high schools in Lively and East York. He was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, Root Tilden Scholar and Omicron Delta Kappa. Bob held an OISE M.Ed., Ontario Teachers Certificate and attended Law School at New York University after graduating with his BA Cum Laude from the University of Denver. Bob was past Chair of the “Lands for Life”, Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Planning Area; Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM); North Bay/Mattawa Conservation Authority; Nipissing East Communities Board (NECB); Nipissing East/Parry Sound Economic Partnership Summit and the Canadian Ecology Centre as well as serving on many other boards. He was also the recipient of the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Citizen Award. Bob was a familiar face on the slopes of Nipissing Ridge, Laurentian, and Mount Antoine Ski Hills. In his younger years he was a member of the Canadian National Downhill and Cross-Country Ski Teams, winning Gold at the North American Competition. He also won Silver at the North American Racing Canoe Championship. Bob’s family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 2 pm. Cremation to follow. If desired, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation. .
