Frederick, Catherine

1966-2021

Catherine passed away peacefully at her home in Kanata surrounded by close friends and family on January 8, 2021.
Catherine was raised in the City of North Bay by her parents Miriam and Gerry (Deceased) along with her brothers, Tim, Terry and Ken.  After graduating high school she attended the University of Ottawa in the Nursing program.  Following University she worked for over 30 years as a Nurse at the Ottawa Civic Hospital Obstetrics unit.
Catherine is survived by her two sons, Shaun (Sara) and Isaac, partner Stephane , mother Miriam (Armand Decaire), and her brothers, Terry (Dana), Tim (Judyanne) and Ken (Ginette). Catherine is also fondly remembered as a fantastic Aunt by Julie (Justin ), Megan (Patrick) Mark (Sari), Macy and Vivian.
It is hard to list all loves of Catherine’s life.  I would think that Family, Friends, the outdoors would be at the top of her list.
Family was very important to Catherine.  From her earliest days she spent time on long walks with her father discussing life’s riddles. She later strengthened bonds between family members with numerous camping and ski trips, muffin baking afternoons or just providing a good ear or hugs as needed.
Catherine was a wonderful person.    Whether advocating for her special needs son, helping her mother, brothers, friends, colleagues, or patients she could be counted on for doing whatever she could.
Catherine loved the outdoors.  There was never a day too hot, too cold, too wet which could wipe the smile from her face when she was outside spending time with her family and friends.
Catherine was a beacon of life not only in and of herself, but also in how she raised her sons, treated everyone around her, and even worked as a nurse - of all places - in the birthing unit, bringing new life into this world
One of Catherine’s good friends summed up Catherine in six words.  “She gave off a good vibe”
Anyone who was fortunate enough to know Catherine may feel that although her time on the earth  was far too short, they can be confident she did not waste the time she was given.
The family would also like to recognize the incredible support her partner Stephane and her close friends Julie, Rosie and Monique provided Catherine in her courageous battle with Cancer.
A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
