Peacefully passed away at Nipissing Manor, Corbeil, ON, on January 8th, 2015 at the age of 102 years. Beloved mother of Allain (Linda) Dupuis of Kanata, ON and Marc Dupuis (deceased 2008) cherished Grandmother of Sheryl Renaud, Tracy, Scott and Tony Dupuis and Great-grandmother of Krysta, Brittany, Allain and Morgan Renaud. Predeceased by her husband Antoine, her parents Joseph Contant and Oliva Rochefort, brothers Elzear, Louis, Eugene, Leon, Arthur, Joseph, and Narcisse and sisters Agnes Ouellette, Henriette Lalonde and Evelyn Shaw. Irene was a long time member of the Catholic Womens League- St. Alphonsus, Callander, ON and the Callander Pioneer Club. In addition to being an attentive, loving, caring wife and mother, she was an exceptional seamstress. She was well known and sought after for her skill with the needle, thread and sewing machine in Callander and environs. In her mid-twenties, she was employed as the resident seamstress for the Dionne Quintuplets and loved to share stories of those, and other times, with her family, especially her granddaughters. Notably, her final years were spent at the Nipissing Manor, the former residence of the Quintuplets. The Family will be receiving friends at the McGuinty Funeral Home/ Whispering Pines Chapel in Callander (87 Lansdowne Street) on Monday Jan 12th 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Alphonsus Church on Tuesday at 1:30 pm. Spring interment will take place at Callander Union Cemetery. If you so desire, donations to the charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated by the family. The family wishes to thank the staff at Nipissing Manor for the excellent care provided to Irene and the compassionate manner representatives communicated with the family, especially in recent weeks.
