September 24,1934 – January 20, 2024

Mairiam Elizabeth “Betty” Dube, nee McGowan was a devoted wife to Vern Dube, mother of two, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She left us very unexpectedly on January 20, 2024.

She was born to John and Mairiam McGowan, September 24, 1934, in North Bay Ontario. Betty is survived by her husband, Vern Dube, North Bay, children Leslie and Scott who reside in the Toronto area with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and is also survived by her brother Peter McGowan.

Betty and Vern lived in many places - North Bay, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Ottawa, Oakville, Saudi Arabia, and travelled to 46 different countries throughout their lives together, they ultimately returned to North Bay when they retired. Betty felt a strong bond to the people and community in her place of birth, North Bay.

Betty and Vern lived for many years on Trout Lake enjoying the beautiful views and frequently sharing them with friends and family.  In recent years they lived on Lake Nipissing and enjoyed the beautiful views and sunsets from their windows.  For Betty, community revolved around her life-long friends and the activities they enjoyed together. She was an accomplished bridge player and a Bingo player, just for fun. She was an avid reader and never met a crossword she couldn’t solve.

Betty was a wonderful cook and baker, creating delicious meals and baked treats for her family and friends. Cherished memories of Christmas meals and Thanksgiving feasts were created by Betty’s hard work in the kitchen. Her legacy lives on through her recipes which are enjoyed by three generations!

We are deeply saddened by her passing and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be scheduled in the spring in North Bay, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Society of North Bay on her behalf.
