DEACON ETTLES, Roy McCulloch

Passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family members at North Bay General Hospital, Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the age of 77 years. Roy Ettles was the beloved husband of Kathleen (née Kervin) for 50 years and loved father of Stephen (Loma) and Shelley Ricker (Dan). He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Nathan and Joel Ricker. Dear brother of Hugh (late Susan) and Robin (Mardie). He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousin Christopher Ettles (Gabriel). Predeceased by his parents, Kathleen and Ian Ettles and two brothers, Colin and Alan (June-surviving). Roy was born in Oshawa, was raised in Toronto and moved to North Bay in 1949. He worked over 20 years with the Province of Ontario; first with the District of Nipissing Social Welfare Board and second with Ministry of Community and Social Services. Roy was ordained a deacon in 1981 and served in Temagami, Bear Island, Sturgeon Falls, Powassan, St. Alphonsus Church in Callander and St. Rita's Church in North Bay. He was in charge of pastoral care at Eastholme Home for the Aged in Powassan for 10 years. He retired from the ministry in 2003. Roy also was a volunteer firefighter (deputy chief) at North Himsworth Fire Department, a member of the founding board of directors for Vita Way Farm and a member of Knights of Columbus.
