The family and loved ones of Fritz Czarnowski sadly announce his death at the North Bay General Hospital on December 18, 2022, after a wonderful life of 94 and ½ years following a brief illness. Fritz was born in Lauenburg, Pomerania (now Poland) on June 14, 1928. Following WWII he came to Canada with two of his brothers in the 1950’s and settled in Thunder Bay (Port Arthur), Ontario where they enjoyed a lifelong friendship with George and Joan Winslow and their families. He worked for many years as a high steel rigger and after suffering a serious accident at his work, he learned a  new skill in leather work while rehabilitating. Fritz later settled in Brantford, Ontario to be closer to his brother Rudy and his family and then in North Bay (Callander), Ontario after marrying Joan Winslow October 7, 1989. Fritz took great delight in children and the outdoors. He enjoyed the woodland animals, gardening, preserving fruit and making jams and jellies. He was always happy to lend a helping hand with various ministries at South Shore Evangelical Missionary Church. He lived his faith; enjoyed the men’s group at the church, reading his bible and the Daily Bread devotional and sharing the nuggets of wisdom with others. Life’s simple pleasures always brought him such great joy. He will be deeply missed and loved by his daughter-in-law Gina Winslow (Rick Winslow) and their children; his grandson, Kory Winslow (Cyndy Winslow) his great grandchildren Zach Winslow and  Abby Winslow; his granddaughter Kristy Winslow (Andy Garbas); Carla Garbas; Joan and George Winslow’s son, John Winslow; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Czarnowski (Rudy Czarnowski) and their children; his nephew, Peter Czarnowski; his niece Patti Arblaster (Dave) and their son, his great nephew, Evan; Gina’s sisters and their families; Joan’s extended family in England and Australia; his beloved church family at South Shore Evangelical Missionary Church and particularly his dear friend Hans, and his adopted families, Peter and Wendy Gass and their children, Gilliann, Jenna and Kelsey, and their children; Rob and Anna Long and their children, Katie, Abbie and Emma; Dave and Linda Richards and their children, Tara, Laura, Alissa and Tim, and their children; and Mike and Tara in Wakefield, Quebec, and their children, Alma, Kate, Lucy and Harold; and so many other faithful friends. A heartfelt thank you for the many years of loving friendship and care provided by Fritz’s beloved church family, including Peter and Wendy Gass, Rob and Anna Long, Linda and Dave Richards, Reverend Simon and Val Beadle, and many others who were willing to cook, drive, visit, share tears and laughter and the many other blessings of friendship and love as needed. We also give thanks for the sincere compassion and care for Fritz’s comfort that was by provided by Dr. Locke and the hospital staff during his hospital stay in the days leading up to his death. We are also grateful for the heartfelt guidance and compassionate care expressed in so many ways by Richard Paul and his staff at the Paul Funeral Home in Powassan. In lieu of flowers your expressions of sympathy would be gratefully received as donations made to the South Shore Evangelical Missionary Church benevolent fund. A memorial service will be held at South Shore Evangelical Missionary Church on Saturday, March 11, 2023. 1892 Hwy. 654 West, Callander, Ontario P0H 1H0 705-752-5971.
