COUCHIE, Thomas

After a lengthy illness, at the North Bay General Hospital- Scollard Site, on Tuesday, July 31, 2007. Thomas, was the beloved husband of Frances “Fran” Gertrude Saunders (67 years married), he was 93 years old. Loving father of Sheila Dawn Brooks and her husband Ronald of Tillsonburg and Darrell Couchie and his wife Eva of North Bay. Loving grandfather of Aylan (Michael), Jaiden, Brent (Joanne), Rodney, Jeff (Jane), Cindy (Rick), 1 great granddaughter and 6 great grandsons. He will be dearly remembered by his 6 sisters and 1 brother. Tom was the oldest son of the late John and Edna (Laronde) Couchie of the Nbisiing First Nation.



He was a fishing guide in Temagami and Algonquin Park for a number of years before the war. During the Second World War he served from 1940 to 1945 where he saw action in France and Holland with the Victoria Rifles and Algonquin Regiment. After the war Tom worked for the ONR as a pipe fitter, retiring after 35 years of service. He belonged to the Mason's and Scottish Rite lodges as well as the Oddfellows.



There will be a traditional burial at the cemetery on the Nbisiing First Nation (Duschenay) at noon on Monday August 6th followed by a feast in the Nbisiing High School across from the cemetery. Please do not send flowers. Donations can be made to the Lung Association. Arrangements entrusted to the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall)
