CHILD, Verva

After a long, full life, Verva died peacefully on April 27, 2006, in her 87th year. She was born September 10, 1919, in Dalrymple, the middle child of 5 born to John A. and Annie McGillivray. Verva entered Nursing at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay and graduated as a Registered Nurse [RN] in 1942. She practised nursing at Toronto General Hospital until the end of the War in 1945, then moved to North Bay with her new husband, Murray Child. Verva took particular pride in her nursing career. She was Director of Nursing at the opening of Eastholme Home for the Aged in Powassan, then became Director of Nursing at Leisure World Home for the Aged in North Bay. She also contributed as a Director on the Board of Directors of The Victorian Order of Nurses and played a prominent role in the Rebekah Lodge.



Verva was predeceased by her parents, siblings and husband Murray and son Gordon. She is survived by her son Ron [Kathleen] of Toronto, her daughter Karen [Michael] of Isle of Man UK, grandchildren Jennifer Janicas and Kathryn Child of Toronto and Rebecca and Briana Kirkwood of Isle of Man and great- grandchildren Phillip and Meghan Verva Janicas.



Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME on Sunday evening from 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday at 2 pm. Interment following cremation will be with her late husband Murray and son Gordon at Bolsover Cemetery. If desired, flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the VON or the Sara Whitehead Scholarship Fund.
