Chancey "Chan" Armstrong

Chancey Edward James Armstrong died peacefully at Leisureworld on Monday February 28th, 2011 at the age of 93. The son of William and Ethel Armstrong, he was also the well loved brother of Bern (Jean) Armstrong (both deceased), Elva (George) MacArthur (both deceased), Velma (Jack, deceased) Priest and Shirley (Bill, deceased) Currie. Chan was proud to be a part of a large, extended family that included nieces, nephews and cousins. In recent years, Greg Currie and Marylou Tomlinson have been fortunate to have been able to enjoy many happy times in Chan’s company. Strong family roots in Powassan are based in the Bartraw family. Well known for his gentle kindness, Chan was most of all, the dedicated, devoted husband to Kay, his wife of 68 years. Together, they made the sun shine. Their only daughter, Gail, predeceased Chan in the Fall of 2010. Chan’s quiet warmth and humour made him a friend to be treasured. In recent years, he most enjoyed his visits with Gord Pettigrew. Always appreciated for her caring ways has been Diane Szewzyk First Baptist Church has been their family of Faith. Both Chan and Kay were strengthened by the ongoing support the church provided. For Many years, Chan worked for the City of North Bay as CAO. His clear-versioned dedication earned him both loyalty and respect from all who worked with him. Through his last weeks, Chan was conscientiously and kindly assessed by Dr. Rankin and the Staff in the Emergency Department. Dr. Cowan and the Nursing Staff on C3 provided kind and gentle care that allowed Chan maximum comfort. At home in Leisureworld, all of the staff where tireless in their efforts to provide tender care for Chan and soft support to Kay. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home on Saturday March 5th from 1:00pm until time for a memorial service to be held at 2:00pm. Chan’s and Gail’s ashes will be interred in the spring in Union Cemetery. If desired donations to the Diagnostic Imaging Campaign of the North Bay & District Hospital Foundation, or the charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
