Passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the North Bay Hospital.  Robert (Bob) was the loving husband of Arleen Brandes of Powassan, devoted father to his five children Wendy (Art) Lalonde of Waubaushene, Susan (Bill) Brandes of Kitchener, Warren Brandes of Guelph, Karen (Robert) Kofskyof Madagascar, and Linda Brandes of Alberta. Bob was a grandfather to Kirsten Lalonde, Joseph (Hailey) Lalonde and Robert Richter. He is survived by sisters Betty Ann Brandes(Elizabeth) and Barbara Ann Gare (Belinda). Bob will be lovingly remembered by many friends and family. Robert (Bob) was predeceased by brother William Brandes, mother Ann Brandes, father Ole Brandes, and niece Cindy Chauvin. Born in Toronto, where his father was a musician, Bob developed his love of music where he played trumpet in the Navy Band and then continued with this at the University of Michigan while pursuing his degree in Forestry. With many moves throughout Ontario, Bob and Arleen settled back to Powassan in 2001. Bob's life was full with music, community, education, agriculture, forestry, and he will be missed in many circles. Mr. Brandes was the first Head of the Music Department, and the leader of the band, at the newly amalgamated Almaguin Highlands Secondary School in 1969. Family would like to extend a thank you to the support and care received both at home and especially to those in the palliative care unit at the North Bay Hospital. The Brandes family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home in Powassan from 1:00 to 2:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life in the Funeral Home at 2:00 pm. Memorial donations can made to the Powassan United Church or Powassan Food Bank (cheques only please). For further information, to make a donation, to order flowers or to leave a condolence message, please call the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan 705-724-2024.
