Baum, Joachim 'Jack'

Posted

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jack (Joachim) Baum announces his sudden death on Saturday September 20, 2014. Predeceased by his wife of 51 years Ann (nee Hogan). He is now the in house poet for the angels. A German immigrant who was especially proud of becoming a Canadian citizen. He loved all things Canadian; attending live hockey games in Noranda, North Bay and then Sudbury, ice fishing on Lake Nipissing and making Maple Sugar in Astorville with his buddy Gerry Ayotte.

Loved to share a good meal with family and friends. A historian and storyteller he was happy to share his stories with all who were willing to sit for a while and listen. Writing poetry in German and English was a passion of his. In years past he enjoyed the solitude of his boat, penning verse. He and Ann enjoyed their years of travel together.

Survived by his brother Wolfgang Baum and his sister Hella Sahlman both of Germany.

Also mourning his loss are Katherine (Joe) Kovach, Marion (Karl) Millier, Allan Duffy (Jo-Anne Jolkowski), Evelyn (Howard) Fillier. Jack was like a grandfather to Amanda Jane (Jamie), Kara (Brett), and Niaomi (Jamie).

Jack will be sadly missed by many nieces ,nephews, great nieces and great nephews, extended family and friends. Predeceased by his parents Willi and Joanna (nee Lehmann).

Join his family in Celebration of His Life at The McGuinty Funeral Home on October 11, 2014 at 11 am with burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery.

At his request donations to The Canadian Cancer Society, The Human Society or St. .John the Divine Church North Bay would be appreciated.
