News release: (North Bay, ON) – From November 14 – 21, YMCA Peace Week invites people of all ages to reflect on peace, to talk, and to take action, individually and with others.

A special highlight of Peace Week is the presentation of YMCA Peace Medallions to individuals or groups who, without any special resources, demonstrate a commitment to the values of PEACE through contributions made within their local, national or global community. Peacemakers are recognized for promoting and inspiring Participation, Empathy, Advocacy, Community and Empowerment.

The YMCA is now accepting nominations for the YMCA Peace Medallion. Those interested in nominating an individual or group for the Peace Medallion can visit the YMCA at 186 Chippewa Street West or online at www.ymcanorthbay.com. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, October 30, 2015.

“The recipient of the YMCA Peace Medallion is a tremendous inspiration and they show how any one of us can improve the quality of life in our local, national or global community. They exemplify the values of YMCA Peace Week and the positive impact one person can make,” says Kim Kanmacher, CEO at the YMCA of North Bay.

Since 1987, more than 1,500 individuals and groups across Canada have been recognized as YMCA Peace Medallion recipients. This year’s ceremony will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 and will honour local community members who have made significant contributions towards peace-building. The ceremony will be held at the YMCA of North Bay from 8:00am to 9:00am. A light breakfast will be served.
