From November 19th to 26th, YMCA Peace Week invites people of all ages to reflect on peace, to talk, and to take action, individually and with others. A special highlight of Peace Week is the presentation of YMCA Peace Medal to individuals or groups who, without any special resources, demonstrate a commitment to the values of PEACE through contributions made within their local, national or global community.

Peacemakers are recognized for promoting and inspiring Participation, Empathy, Advocacy, Community and Empowerment.

The YMCA is now accepting nominations for the YMCA Peace Medal. Those interested in nominating an individual or group for the Peace Medal can visit the YMCA at 186 Chippewa Street West or online at www.ymcanorthbay.com. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, October 28, 2016

“The recipient of the YMCA Peace Medal is a tremendous inspiration and they show how any one of us can improve the quality of life in our local, national or global community. They exemplify the values of YMCA Peace Week and the positive impact one person can make,” says Kim Kanmacher, CEO at the YMCA's of North Bay and Sudbury.

Since 1987, more than 1,500 individuals and groups across Canada have been recognized as YMCA Peace Medal recipients. This year’s ceremony will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016 and will honour local community members who have made significant contributions towards peace-building. The ceremony will be held at the YMCA of North Bay from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. A light lunch will be served.

The YMCA of North Bay is a charity dedicated to building healthy communities. We are committed to nurturing the potential of children, youth and families, promoting healthy living and fostering social responsibility within our community.
