World Hepatitis Day in North Bay

The AIDS Committee of North Bay & Area (ACNBA) is marking World Hepatitis Day, Wednesday, July 27th with a number of events outside North Bay City Hall.

Mayor Al McDonald will read the official proclamation declaring World Hepatitis Day in North Bay. Friends of ACNBA, Nipissing MP, Anthony Rota and Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli will join us

Free hepatitis testing will be available.

Attendees can enjoy free hotdogs and hamburgers at the on-site BBQ and sign ACNBA’s World Hepatitis Day message board of hope.

Hepatitis facts:

  • hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver caused by viral infection
  • nearly 600,000 Canadians are affected by this potentially fatal disease
  • it can take many years before symptoms appear
  • over a quarter of those infected are not aware of their status
  • one in 12 people worldwide has viral hepatitis
  • approximately 1.4 million people die of the disease annually
  • there is no vaccine but there is a cure
