Why steal gas when you're carrying illegal drugs?

On June 7, shortly after 6:30 p.m., East Algoma OPP officers responded to a theft of gas over $50 from a local station in the Town of Bruce Mines.    

The vehicle had left in a westbound direction on Highway 17. Police kept watch and shortly after 7:30 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie OPP found the vehicle at a local restaurant parking lot in Sault Ste. Marie. 

While speaking to the male driver officers saw cannabis marijuana in the vehicle. The driver was arrested and the vehicle searched. 

Jonathan Metcalf, 39, from Pembroke was charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000, 
  • Possession of a Scheduled II Substance- Cannabis Marijuana- Over 30 grams, 
  • Trafficking Schedule II Substance- Cannabis Marijuana -Under 3 kilograms,
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking- Under 3 kilograms,

Metcalf is scheduled to appear in court July 10, for the drug charges and on July 13, for the theft charge.
