  Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook  

North Bay District

MNR&F is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions. Further updates will be issued as appropriate.

 

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

 

Description of Weather System

 

Minimal precipitation is forecast over the Province over the next five days with five day totals of 0 to 5mm across the Province.

 

Temperatures are forecast to remain below normal Thursday through Friday then begin to slightly warm through the weekend with highs of around 5 C and lows around 0 C in the northeast and highs of around 10 C and lows around 2 C in central Ontario.

 

Description of Current Conditions

 

Snowmelt is expected to continue through the central and northeastern region.

 

Rivers and streams will continue their seasonal increase in levels and flows as the spring melt continues northward and moderate risks of ice jam formation exist, due to the heavy ice cover that formed through the winter.

 

There have been reports of flooding across central and northeast Ontario that has impacted travel along some provincial highways and local roads in the region.

 

 

A close watch on local forecasts and conditions is recommended.

Terminology: Notification Levels

 

WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT - FLOOD OUTLOOK: gives early notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecasts calling for heavy rain, snow melt, high winds or other conditions

 

WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – WATER SAFETY: indicates that high flows, melting ice or other factors could be dangerous for such users as boaters, anglers and swimmers but flooding is not expected.

 

FLOOD WATCH: potential for flooding exists within specific watercourses and municipalities

 

FLOOD WARNING: flooding is imminent or occurring within specific watercourses and municipalities.
