Traffic complaint leads to drug charges

On July 5, 2017, at 4:04 p.m. members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a vehicle traveling east bound on Highway (HWY) 17 near HWY 94 and that it was being driven very aggressively.

On July 5, 2017, at 4:04 p.m. members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a vehicle traveling east bound on Highway (HWY) 17 near HWY 94 and that it was being driven very aggressively.

The vehicle was located by the OPP in Bonfield Township (TWP) and a traffic stop was conducted. As a result of the investigation Nicolas Malette, 22 of Timmins and Rosi Cote-Girard,19 of Black River-Matheson Township were charged with the following:

• 3 counts - Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA).

• Possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking - under 3 kilograms contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA.

• Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under 5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC).

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on July 25, 2017.
