 The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were busy patrolling local roads and towns and waterways this Canada Day long weekend.

This year between Friday July 1, 2016 and Sunday July 3, 2016, Almaguin Highlands OPP issued a total of 116 Provincial Offences Act charges.  These charges include speeding; fail to wear seat belt, suspended driving, and numerous other Highway Traffic Act charges.  Officers also issued Provincial Offence Notices for Liquor Licence Act offences and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act offences as well as several people were charged/warned with drug related offences.

OPP marine operators patrolled Doe Lake, Lake Bernard, Sand Lake and Eagle Lake, issuing several tickets.  A Provincial offence notice was issued to a vessel operator for towing without a spotter, contrary to the Canada Shipping Act, Small Vessel Regulations, as well other operators were charged with Liquor Licence Act charges and drug related offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  One operator was issued a three day drivers licence suspension and one operator was issued a seven day drivers licence suspension for registering a warning on the Alcotest road side screening device.

Officers also conducted 36.5 hours of R.I.D.E (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere), checking approximately 460 vehicles in the area.

Officers arrested and charged one driver after receiving a traffic complaint on James Camp Road, Ryerson Township with impaired operation and having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood.

During this period, officers responded to one motor vehicle collisions in the area and report no injuries.
