Approximately 900 high school age students will converge on Nipissing University this weekend for the 5th Annual North Bay FIRST Robotics Competition.

Thirty-two teams, from throughout Ontario and one all-female team from Afghanistan, will compete in this year’s competitive game “Power Up”

Under strict rules, limited resources, and the guidance of volunteer mentors including engineers, teachers, business professionals, parents, alumni and more, teams of high school students have had just six weeks to design, build and program their teams’ robots to perform challenging game tasks against a field of competitors.

Teams also raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills and perform community outreach.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend, meet team members and cheer on their favourites.

Practice matches start Thursday evening and qualification matches begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday and continue all day Saturday at the Surtees Athletic Centre at Nipissing University.
