The rescheduled Kiwanis Winter Triathalon is a go!

"We were determined to have a Winter Triathlon this season, despite the dramatic change in the weather this year," says Race Director Brandi Venne, "I never had any doubt we would host an event."

Venne continues "As you recall, -45 arrived on our original February date so we re-scheduled for this Saturday and with this week of mild temperatures. The transition area will now be hosted at Parking Lot #8, on the North side of Nipissing University and the Education Centre, since the Pond is not available for our use."

The evening cold temperatures will hold the snow well in place for the Snowshoe and XC Ski components.

Registration will occur inside the Cafeteria in front of the Pond between 9:30-10:30 a.m.

The inaugural Fat Bike Event will take place at 1:30 p.m.

All athletes and spectators are encouraged to use parking lot #7, also on the North side.

We are open to all participants ages 13 and up, and this could also be a fun team event.

The winter triathlon and fat bike competition are both set for March 12, but will be held back to back as two separate events.

The triathlon, which will see competitors run 5 km, snowshoe 2 km and ski 6.6 km to the finish line, will start at 11 a.m., followed by the fat bike competition at 1:30 p.m. Registration, which has been set at $30 per entry or $25 for students, will be held that morning between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. And both events will be free to watch.
