Weekend Occurrences
Over the weekend, North Bay Police responded to 183 calls for service that resulted in 11 arrests. Offences included public intoxication, sexual assault, assault, theft under $5000, and breaches.
Telephone scam alert
On Friday, October 17th, 2014 a man claiming to be an employee of Microsoft contacted a North Bay woman by telephone. The man provided her with a fake employee name and ID number and convinced her that there were problems with her computer and that he needed access to it in order to fix it. After she gave him remote access, the man deleted all of the data on her computer and then demanded that she pay him for the service of returning the information, which she didn’t do.
The North Bay Police Service advises the public to never provide unsolicited callers with passwords or details on the computers they own, or credit card or banking information.
If you receive a call like the one described above, simply hang up.
