Teen charged going 130 in a posted 70 km/h zone, while workers were present

A hike in insurance rates is likely for this teen driver.

OPP are increasing their patrols at the construction zone on Highway 69 in French River in response to lead-footed drivers.

On the afternoon of May 7, officers stopped a car travelling in excess of 130 in a posted 70 km/h zone, while workers were present.  

The 19-year-old driver, from Toronto is charged performing a stunt with a motor vehicle - excessive speed - construction zone. 

In addition to the charge, the driver was served a seven-day driver's licence suspension along with a seven-day vehicle impoundment.    

If heading southbound, the construction zone starts just north of the Highway 607 junction and ends just north of Highway 522, which is a total of 16.4 kilometers .    

The reduced speed limit is posted with large signs. Motorists continue to exceed the posted speed limit of 70 kilometres per hour say police.  The fines for speeding in a construction zone when workers are present is double the amount than regular speeding offences.
