Police services across Ontario including the West Nipissing Police Service held a month-long gun amnesty program in April.

Between the OPP and municipal agencies, a total of 2,192 guns were voluntarily surrendered.

In West Nipissing, eight firearms were turned in by individuals that no longer wanted the guns and wanted them disposed of.

The initiative was very successful and provided residents with a safe way to surrender firearms.

Anyone that still wants to turn over weapons they are not legally entitled to own or no longer want are encouraged to contact the police but are reminded that under no circumstances should anyone ever deliver guns or ammunition directly to police facilities.
