Recipients of the North Bay Rotary Club Award are three Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord students.

They were recognized for their commitment to volunteerism during a community event at the Grande Event Centre in North Bay on February 13.

Sophie Bangs is a grade 10 student at École secondaire catholique Élisabeth-Bruyère who participates on the Student Council and is the voice of the morning announcements. Sophie volunteers at the Mattawa Royal Canadian Legion bingo games and helps with the Mattawa Golden Club activities.

Alexie Bélanger, a grade 11 student at École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité, cares about the people around her. She sits on the school council where she spends many hours organizing activities and making sure the school is a great place to live. Alexie is a reliable member of the pastoral group and is involved in raising funds to help those in need at the school and in the West Nipissing community.

An engaged citizen, Arianne Savard is a grade 11 student at École secondaire catholique Algonquin. She participates in many school clubs and activities and tutors at school to support her peers. Arianne is very involved in her community, volunteering with Outloud North Bay and the West Nipissing Arts Centre.

At the annual "Quand ça nous chante" (When We Sing) festival held in Timmins last month, many high school students excelled in their talent, dedication, and perseverance.

"Congratulations to all the musicians at École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité who participated in the festival, including Sophie-Anne Levac, guitarist, and Angélique Levac, pianist, who were recognized for their level of performance by the jury of professional artists," says a news release.

The Café chantant of École secondaire catholique Algonquin received the "Coup de coeur" recognition from renowned singer-songwriter Céleste Lévis, as well as the label "professional caliber" performance from festival godfather Stef Paquette.

Samuel Leblanc also received a recognition award for his performance on electric bass and Emma-Rose Smith received the Jury's Favourite award, which will give her the chance to participate in the "Jamais trop tôt" music festival in Granby this summer.
