Students at Canadore College are cashing in as $500,000 in scholarships and bursaries are being handed out this year.

More than 1,000 students have received financial awards and assistance to help them pay for their education at Canadore College.

“Today’s cost of living is steep and it is hard for students and their families to finance college, even though it is a high priority,” said George Burton, Canadore College President and CEO.

While some assistance is granted based on financial need, other monies are distributed to recognize academic excellence and achievement.

“I am honoured to be chosen and words cannot describe how much this will help me financially as I make the transition from nursing student to practicing nurse,” said Courtney Lawrie, practical nursing graduate. “I have worked incredibly hard over the past two years and it is incredibly rewarding to be recognized for my dedication.”

Canadore’s financial aid office assists students with applications to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), discretionary bursaries, emergency loans, scholarships, entrance scholarships and student employment opportunities.
