FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - TORONTO, ON - July 1, 2016: New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) is pleased to present the 18th edition of the Sound Travels Festival of Sound Art, which opens July 1 and runs until August 26, 2016. As part of this annual summer-long celebration of sound art, NAISA presents performances, indoor and outdoor interactive sound installations and the 10th annual Toronto International Electroacoustic Symposium (TIES) various venues including Geary Lane (360 Geary Ave), the Canadian Music Centre, Toronto Island and in the Near North at Warbler’s Roost (South River, ON).

In a world that often focuses too much on the visual, Sound Travels brings about a refreshing change as it presents works by sound artists that extract compelling musicality from unexpected sources.  From these auditory experiences, audiences author their own imaginary world in their mind’s eye – Darren Copeland, Artistic Director, New Adventures in Sound Art.

NAISA is bringing a weekend full of Sound Art to the Near North July 29 - 31 at Warbler’s Roost. Experience site-specific installations in the beautiful outdoors with NAISA-curated works by Christine Charette (Sundridge), BARFFF Enterprises (Huntsville), Darren Copeland (South River),and Yves Daoust (Montreal).  Each of the works respond to the forest in different ways sculpturally and sonically – some reflect on a transplanted sense of place, others draw attention to the latent musicality that exists within the environment.  This event coincides with the Almaguin Highlands Arts Council’s 2016 Studio Tour.
