OPP are warning snowmobilers to be careful while on the ice after an accident this weekend.

On Saturday at approximately 5:39 p.m., Manitoulin-Espanola OPP officers with the assistance of the Sudbury-Manitoulin District Emergency Medical Services responded to a snowmobile accident in Little Current.

The single snowmobile was travelling at a high rate of speed and hit a pressure crack, causing the rider to fall off. An 18-year-old male from Little Current, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in this collision.

OPP would like to remind the public that travelling on unsafe ice, speeding, driving too fast for the conditions and alcohol consumption continue to be leading causes of OPP-investigated snowmobile fatalities.

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs provides a snowmobile trail network that covers more than 30,000 kilometres throughout Ontario's snow-belt. For more information about the OFSC and how to get up-to-date information trail conditions, visit their website at: http://www.ofsc.on.ca/
