Students at three schools in Mattawa will be eating a healthy breakfast thanks to Gin-Cor Industries.

The company's Event Planning Committee presented cheques to local elementary schools Mattawa District Public School, St. Victors School and École Ste-Anne.

Each received a donation of $2,500 toward their Schools Breakfast Programs for a total donation of $7,500.

Five years ago the staff at Gin-Cor Industries was looking for a way to give back to the community where it started.

"The decision was made to choose one organization or charity, then raise funds for them for three years," Pierre Ranger, Purchasing Manager said in a news release.

"Gin-Cor raised the majority of these funds during their Annual Christmas Party. During the event, prize lots were made valuing roughly $500 to $800 each and raffle tickets were sold to staff and guests at $5 each. For the first three years, Gin-Cor donated to the Mattawa General Hospital. This time around the School Breakfast Programs were chosen by the staff. Instead of waiting the full three years a decision was made to donate after year two."

The staff raised a total of $3,750 during their events and that number was matched by President and CEO Luc Stang to make the total donation $7,500. Gin-Cor will continue to raise money this year for the Schools Breakfast Programs to finish off the three year term.

In the past five years, Gin-Cor Industries, based in Mattawa, has grown from a company of 40 people to almost 500.
