A traffic accident Sunday near Barrie shows just how dangerous a runaway tire on a busy highway can be.
At approximately 1:40 p.m. OPP officers were called to a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 11 in Oro-Medonte Township.
A Mini Sportsman was southbound on Highway 11 when its driver made an improper lane change, struck another vehicle, lost control, and struck the centre guard rail causing the car to lose a wheel.
The car then went into the ditch and the wheel went over the guardrail causing a collision in the northbound lanes. There were a total of eight motor vehicles involved.
Four people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Both southbound lanes and one northbound lane were closed for approximately one hour.
The female driver of the Mini Sportsman was charged with making an improper lane change.
