Public Safety Communicator Appreciation Week

From 12 to 18 April 2015

Police, fire or ambulance?” If you’re a resident of North Bay and Callander calling 911, the voice you’ll hear is that of a North Bay Police Service communicator. This week, in celebration of Public Safety Communicator Appreciation Week, the North Bay Police Service recognizes the work of its communicators and communications manager.

“These dedicated civilian members of the North Bay Police Service are often the first to respond to people in crisis or at risk in our community,” said Deputy Chief Shawn Devine, North Bay Police Service. “It gives me great pleasure to recognize their work on behalf of our Service and especially our sworn members who rely on their skills and expertise to respond to calls in an efficient and professional manner. We thank them for their dedication to the people of North Bay and Callander.”

Communicators, who work 12-hour shifts in a 24/7 environment, are trained to respond to urgent calls for police, fire and ambulance assistance in a professional and caring manner. They are proficient at obtaining critical information in high-stress situations and at providing the crucial link between those in need of assistance and emergency personnel who respond to the calls for service. In 2014, North Bay Police Service communicators answered over 28,000 calls from the public for police, fire and ambulance assistance.
