News release: On November 30, 2015, the Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society to hold their 1st annual Pink in the Rink hockey game in support of breast cancer research.  The Voodoos took on the Cochrane Crunch in a closely contested battle between these East Division rivals.  Although the Voodoos were on the losing side of a 3-2 final score, they were the winners in the fight against breast cancer.

A total of $5,540.10 was raised.

“We are thrilled with the success of our first Pink in the Rink game which we will now be making an annual event,” stated Voodoos President Jim Bruce. “We would like to thank our sponsors, our fans, our players, Sylvain Rivet and the Voodoos organization. I’m a cancer survivor and I’m proud of what this community has done to support this important cause.”

Gil Pharand, Manager of the Canadian Cancer Society’s North Bay office adds, “We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from the Powassan community.  The Voodoos, their staff, players, fans and sponsors are amazing supporters.  We appreciate the generosity of everyone involved.  We are looking forward to next year’s game.”

Money raised through Pink in the Rink will help the Canadian Cancer Society fund Breast Cancer Research. Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canadian women and the second most common cause of cancer deaths in women.
