POLICE ARE REMINDING MOTORISTS TO BUCKLE UP

(ALMGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) In Ontario every occupant travelling in a motor vehicle is required by law to wear a seatbelt. The Ontario Provincial Police are currently conducting a seat belt campaign and are specifically looking for vehicle occupants not wearing their seatbelts.

Drivers and passengers over 16 years failing to use or improperly use a seatbelt are subject to a fine of $240 and for drivers this would include 2 demerit points.

This is the second week of the seat belt campaign and currently the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police have issued 54 Provincial Offence Notices to drivers/passenger for failing to wear a seatbelt.

              OPP ARREST HUNTSVILLE MAN FOR ASSALT AND
                                 POSSESSION OF MARIHUANA

(PERRY TWP, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a 9-1-1 call on Saturday October 4, 2014 at approximately 4:00 p.m., from a Perry Township residence.  The caller advised a male had entered the residence intoxicated and was assaulting people within the residence.

OPP arrived and arrested a 47 year old male from Huntsville Ontario for assault.  Further investigation by officers, lead to the seizure of approximately 376 grams of marihuana from the accused.

The accused, whose name cannot be released, was charged with four counts of assault, driving while ability impaired, unlawfully in a dwelling house, criminal harassment, mischief and possession of marihuana for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario on Wednesday October 8, 2014 for a bail hearing.
