Members of the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break, enter and theft at the Bell Canada tower and digital site located on Highway 64 North, between Sturgeon Falls and Field, in West Nipissing, Ontario on December 6.
Investigation revealed a non-urgent radio communication alarm was received at 5 a.m. on December 6, 2019. Upon arriving at the site, workers found the warehouse had been broken into and over $5000 worth of copper wire was taken. Damages to the site are estimated at approximately $15,000.
Then on December 10, 2019, officers received another report of a break, enter and theft of copper wire from the same site which occurred sometime between 5 p.m. on December 9, 2019 and 10 a.m. on December 10, 2019. In this incident, approximately $6000 worth of copper wire was taken and the same amount of damage was caused.
The stolen copper wire is described as: one inch in diameter with a black insulated sheathing, rating 1000V, rw90 x-link, minus 40F, 1000V thermalene, 750 OHM. It appears wires were cut in lengths of up to 25 feet.
The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Service. Anyone with information regarding these B & E's and thefts, is urged to contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
