It's got to make you nervous when you've just smoked a joint in your car, and the cops pull you over.

That's what East Algoma OPP came across yesterday while on regular patrol in Blind River.

Shortly before 3 a.m., police saw a vehicle travelling along one of the town's streets and a vehicle stop was initiated.

The male driver could not produce his driver's licence or the insurance card for his vehicle. While the officer was speaking to the driver and passenger he could detect an odour of freshly burnt marijuana wafting from the vehicle. Both men were arrested and the vehicle searched.

Over 450 grams of cannabis marijuana was located.

Byron Boyer, 36, from Blind River was charged with possession of a Schedule II Substance - Cannabis Marihuana - over 30 grams.

Aldrick Niganabe, 40, from Mississauga First Nation, was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • Driver Fail to Surrender Licence,
