A team from the North Bay and District Humane Society will embark on a 35-hour round trip to Dryden this week, spanning more than 2,800 kilometres, to transfer up to 50 dogs and puppies from Winnipeg-based Manitoba Underdogs Rescue.

The dogs being transferred originate from indigenous communities in northern Manitoba.

Once in North Bay, each of the dogs will undergo a health check and receive medical care including spay-neuter services before finding homes through the North Bay Humane Society and its partner network.

“Our organization is committed to finding loving, forever homes for all animals,” says Janet Bredin, Shelter Manager. “The Pet Valu Animal Rescue Express has made it easier for us to reach out to shelters and rescues and help in a meaningful way, including transferring animals to places where they have a chance at a better life.”

The North Bay Humane Society’s transfer program launched in spring 2018. So far in 2019, the North Bay Humane Society’s Pet Valu Animal Rescue Express has completed more than 10 transfers totalling 16,750 kilometers travelled - impacting the lives of more than 450 animals.
