In recognition of many years of tireless contributions to the ongoing success of the North Bay Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) chapter, Doug Luckett, P.Eng., FEC, has been named a Member of PEO’s Order of Honour according to a news release from the group.
He was inducted into the Order at an April 21 gala in Thunder Bay.
Luckett brought with him 20 years of professional engineering experience when he first began volunteering with the chapter and eventually helping to lead it as vice chair and chair.
He says his greatest volunteer contributions to date include boosting participation in chapter events, such as the Engineers Day Symposium, the Spring Fling Charity Event, Student’s Night, Bridge Building competitions and scholarship events.
In partnership with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists, Luckett also transformed the chapter’s long-time golf tournament into a more meaningful event, altering the format to introduce student participation and securing additional corporate sponsorship. The event now raises $5,000 annually for the local robotics team—one of the world’s top-ranked teams.
But his most rewarding volunteer experiences come from education outreach efforts with local youth, where he encourages kids to consider engineering careers. “Engineering is very versatile,” he says. “An engineering education teaches you how to solve problems and that skill is not specific to any one discipline or job. You can start your career in one area and follow your interests into many different areas.”
The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession.
