“In North Bay a hospital worker was beaten to death by a patient at the former psychiatric hospital. Physical, sexual, and verbal aggression and violence against staff in healthcare, education, social services, policing, emergency services, transit (and many other occupations) is a growing problem. On this Day of Mourning we commit to work to end the violence that workers experience,” says Michael Hurley, North Bay Day of Mourning guest speaker.

City officials will raise the Day of Mourning flag and take part in the presentation.

Violence and harassment are common occurrences for many workers in Canada, and occurrences at work should never be seen as “just part of the job.” Violence at work should never normalize.

“That’s why we’re asking the federal and provincial governments to do more to prevent and stop workplace violence and harassment,” says Henri Giroux, North Bay and District Labour Council President.
