The Almaguin Highlands OPP responded to reports of two gunshots that were heard in the Hamlet of Novar on Saturday October 1, at approximately 11:15 a.m.
On Sunday October 2, officers responded to the same area, this time in relation to a found firearm, a shotgun near the train tracks in Novar.
Police continued to investigate and on Wednesday October 5, OPP officers were granted a public safety warrant to search for firearms, weapons and ammunition. Police arrested Thomas Stevens, 23 of Perry Township with the following offences:
• Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition,
• Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition,
• Lost firearm or weapon not reported,
• False statement regarding firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition,
The accused was released from custody after a bail hearing.
