Local Students impress at Provincial Chess Tourney

Locals qualify for Canadian Youth Chess Championship.

Students from École élémentaire catholique St-Raymond and École secondaire catholique Algonquin were successful at the 10th annual ‘Franco-Ontarien’ Provincial Chess Tournament that took place recently in Etobicoke from May 12th to 14th.  

Evan Kilroy won all of his games and received a gold medal for the high school division. Simon Clouthier won all of his games and received a gold medal for the grade five/six division. Sheldon Kilroy won 5 out of 6 games earning him a third place for the grade five/six division.

Evan Kilroy, Simon Clouthier, Sheldon Kilroy, Mark-Andre Beaudet and Ryan Oas all qualified for the Canadian Youth Chess Championship hosted in Windsor from July 4th to 7th, 2016.

Other strong competitors were Jordan and Cameron Oas and special recognition goes to Martin St Jules for participating in his first Provincial Chess Tournament. 

Martin St Jules obtained an impressive 3.5 out of 6 points in his first tournament.
