As part of its upcoming 2023 CIM Mining Week, CIM Northern Gateway Branch will be engaging students of all ages in North Bay via interactive and educational workshops.

Taking place on November 14, industry events are scheduled with the purpose of providing knowledge about the mining industry, career opportunities, and its importance to the North Bay region.

High school students will be able to participate in the MineOpportunity Challenge, allowing teams to compete for prizes by answering questions and completing challenges relevant to the local mining industry.

Canadore College and Nipissing University students can attend the Opportunities in Mining Social, a round table discussion involving young professionals speaking about careers in mining.

Mining Matters continues to be the bedrock of North Bay’s Mining Week. In 2022, CIM successfully delivered 33 workshops to 790 elementary students and 35 teachers within North Bay and surrounding areas.

This year, even more students and teachers will have access to the virtual workshops that educate students, both in English and French, on the vital role the mining industry plays in our community.

“Our partnership with Mining Matters has been instrumental in delivering educational programs in our community” says Shayn Knapp, chair of the North Bay Mining Week Planning Committee. “These workshops focus on minerals, rocks, mining the importance of mineral resources.”

Since its inception of annual activities in 2007, North Bay Mining Week has worked closely with educators at the elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels to provide fun and interactive events to thousands of students.

CIM Mining Week 2023 will take place between November 13 and 17, 2023. Activities and schedule can be found online at CIM ICM Northern Gateway Branch’s Facebook and LinkedIn pages.
