Have you ever wondered about the game of bridge?

First and foremost, people play because they enjoy it. Playing bridge is a fun trick-taking card game which you can enjoy with friends and family of any age. Bridge players love the mental challenge. Each game played offers a unique challenge of problems and solutions. Every single deal is different. Every deal of 13 cards poses a new problem and the challenge of finding the solution is a great source of enjoyment - even more so if you find the answer! It is played by four players in two competing partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other around a table.

It is one of the world’s most popular card games played worldwide. It can be played around a kitchen table, or played in clubs, tournaments,
online.

The North Bay Duplicate Bridge Club has been in existence for 65 years.

"We are currently located downstairs at Omond Memorial United Church at 319 McKenzie Ave. Until the pandemic, it boasted over 300 members and offered nine different games of various levels each week," the Club stated in a release.

"We averaged 10 - 12 tables per game. Since the pandemic, we are down to 5 games per week and we are averaging 6 - 8 tables per game. Our players range from beginners to expert levels. Our youngest member is 15 years old with our oldest being over 90."

Like many other organizations, the local Bridge Club trying to survive and looking for ways to bring newer bridge players to the Club.

"One of the ways we are doing this is by providing a $5.00 Thursday afternoon game," the Club stated.

"Unlike our other games during the week, you don’t need a partner to participate. We have players on standby ready to play should you show up. We ask that you arrive by 12:45 for the 1 p.m. game and we play 21 boards (about 3 hours of play)."

The Club also offers lessons for new and returning bridge players.

"Our next set of lessons is for players who want to update their rusty skills or newer players who have played other card games and wish to learn this interesting game," the Club stated.

Lessons include instruction, examples and practice at the bridge table.

Lessons take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and lessons include game play every second Friday.

There is no cost for these lessons.

Just e-mail the bridge club at [email protected] to let us know that you will be participating or if you require additional information.
